Three artists begin with paper and cloth before branching off into different directions. Although their paths differ, all share a belief in the versatility these simple materials offer in making powerful art.
Flora Golden begins with realistic images which often glide into the world of fantasy; she uses leather strips, paper, and paint to create her imaginative compositions. Using paper, paint, cloth and embroidery, Kristin Meuser imagines life-size installations of childhood dolls coupled with wild animals that voice the dolls’ strength and emotions. Suzanne DeCuir makes narrative works related to her ancestral history as well as large paper and cloth installations that explore both the sacred and the ineffable.
